Another theft of a Henry Moore bronze

Henry Moore's Sundial sculpture
This sundial sculpture by Henry Moore was stolen earlier this week. All scrap metal shops should be on notice to look out for the piece, and I'm sure police are in contact with scrap metal buyers in the region:

The 22-inch (56cm) high “Sundial” sculpture had been placed in the garden of The Henry Moore Foundation in Much Hadham, Herts, to be enjoyed by visitors. The structure, in the shape of two interlinked crescents, is believed to have been stolen between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, when members of staff spotted it missing. Police have now launched an investigation into the theft, amid fears it could have been stolen to be melted down.
Let's hope this half a million pound work of art won't be sold for only a few hundred pounds and is recovered quickly.

Customized bowling pins

Just what every girl needs - - a ray gun and a makeup-applying robot (or actually, looks like the robot painted a portrait of her). Underneath that clever paint is a bowling pin that Blain Hefner customized to benefit the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Utah. Here's two more, of the many pins that were customized for the fundraiser:

Scott Murry.

Ellen T. Crenshaw.

You can bid on Blain's pin here. And the rest of the pins are also up for auction here.

Sculptures by Pierre Matter

A small sampling of the sculptures on display at Pierre Matter's site. Many remind me of Giger. Pierre also has sculptures, prints and books on sale.

Micromachina - - if we drove around in giant bugs

Some of Scott Bain's Micromachina sculptures:
MICROMACHINA examines what makes the insect world tick, and considers our attempts to control nature and the consequences. Humanity’s blatant disregard for nature, where profit comes before life, will ultimately be our undoing. Pesticides, herbicides, genetic modification and massive urban expansion push the fine balance of life toward disaster. There has to be a point, when mother nature will say ‘too far’, and rid the earth of its biggest pest... us.

Once the stuff of science fiction, today flying and crawling insects are used by the military, fitted with audio and video devices. This exhibition experiments using real taxidermy beetles as mechanised shells, to show how we mistreat our fellow inhabitants, forcing them to do our will.
